Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • Fresh broccoli florets
  • Olive oil or melted butter
  • Fresh garlic minced
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
For the Parmesan Finish
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • Optional red pepper flakes
  • Lemon zest or juice optional
  • Using freshly grated parmesan matters. Pre-shredded cheese doesn’t melt or cling the same way and often dulls the flavor.

Equipment

  • Baking sheet or large skillet
  • Parchment paper (if roasting)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Microplane or fine grater
  • Tongs or spatula

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Broccoli
  1. Wash and dry the broccoli thoroughly. Moisture prevents browning, so take the time to dry it well. Cut into evenly sized florets, leaving some stem for texture.
Step 2: Season Properly
  1. Place broccoli in a mixing bowl and toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper until evenly coated. Add garlic last to reduce the risk of burning.
Step 3: Cook Until Tender and Golden
  1. Oven Method (Best for Crisp Edges): Spread broccoli in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast at high heat until tender inside and lightly browned on the edges, flipping once for even cooking.
  2. Stovetop Method: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add broccoli and cook until bright green and just tender, then add garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
Step 4: Add Parmesan
  1. Remove broccoli from heat and immediately sprinkle with finely grated parmesan. Toss gently so the cheese melts and coats the florets evenly.
Step 5: Finish and Serve
  1. Taste and adjust seasoning. Add red pepper flakes or a squeeze of lemon if desired, then serve warm.
